The USDA report today didn't treat the corn market very well.  Both corn acres and yield were higher the result has corn carryout over 2.1 billion bushels.  Corn yield was pegged at 188.8 bpa vs an estimate of 184.29 bpa.  How high is 188.8?  Well…the previous record was 179.3.  Planted corn acres were put at 97.3 million.  Total corn production is estimated at 16.742 billion bushels, which is 763 million more than the report estimates.  Not good news for the corn market as we finished down 13 cents on the day and made new lows for the move.  Beans on the other hand had the opposite effect as the bean acres were lowered.  Planted bean acres were pegged at 80.9 million.  Yield was increased to 53.6 bpa vs an estimate of 52.9 bpa.  Even with the yield improvement the carryout was lowered to 290 million bushels vs an average guess of 349 million.  Beans were in turn up 21 cents on the day.  Beans finally have some positive news, but we are still a Chinese trade deal away from $10 cash beans at harvest.  Hopefully Donald can get something done in the soon before it's too late for the harvest export business.
